Peace of mind, wherever you are.

Know when something needs your attention, even when you’re not there.

pomSENS is a compact connected monitor being developed to keep you aware of existing audible alarms and environmental conditions at the places that matter to you.

Works alongside your existing alarms. It doesn’t replace them.

Why pomSENS

Your property doesn’t stop needing attention when you leave.

When nobody is there, an alarm can sound unheard and a slow change in temperature or humidity can go unnoticed until you return. pomSENS aims to give you an extra layer of awareness, wherever you are.

That is what the pom in pomSENS stands for: peace of mind.

  • The smoke alarm at the bach goes off midweek, with no neighbour close enough to hear it.
  • A cold snap drops the temperature in a holiday home that has sat empty for a month.
  • Humidity creeps up in a closed-up caravan over winter.
  • The air-conditioning in a comms cupboard stops over a long weekend.

What it is designed to monitor

Four signals, one quiet device.

  1. Audible alarm awareness

Designed to recognise relevant audible alarm events from the alarms you already have, such as smoke alarms. It listens for the alarm’s sound; it does not detect smoke or fire itself.

  2. Temperature

Monitors ambient temperature, so you can hear about it when conditions move outside a range you choose.

  3. Humidity

Monitors relative humidity to help you notice damp or changing conditions before your next visit.

  4. Noise levels

Monitors ambient noise levels, so you can notice when a place is louder than usual.

History you can look back on

See how temperature, humidity and noise levels change over time, not only when something needs your attention.

Notifications you choose

Decide which conditions and recognised alarm events you hear about, and at what levels. Notifications need the device to have power and a Wi-Fi connection.

Looking further ahead, we are exploring letting you teach pomSENS other sounds that matter to you.

How it is intended to work

Monitor. Recognise. Notify.

This describes the intended experience. The details will be confirmed through testing.

  1. Monitor

It is designed to be set up from your phone. Place it in the space you want to keep an eye on, within hearing of an existing alarm.

  2. Recognise

It keeps track of the conditions you have configured and listens for relevant audible alarm events.

  3. Notify

When a supported, configured event is detected and connectivity allows, you receive a remote notification.

The design

Small, calm and unobtrusive.

A compact, softly rounded enclosure designed to sit quietly in the background of a room. No screen and nothing to fuss with, just the essentials.

Who it’s for

Where we think pomSENS could help.

These are the places we are exploring first. Tell us where you would use it; your answer shapes what we build.

  • Holiday homes and rentals

For owners who want to know more about an unattended property between visits or guests.

  • Caravans, motorhomes and boats

For owners who want awareness while away, where power, connectivity and suitability allow.

  • Homes

For households wanting connected awareness alongside the alarms they already have.

  • Small businesses and equipment rooms

For operators keeping an eye on stockrooms, comms cupboards and other sensitive spaces.

Questions

Good to know.

Is pomSENS a smoke detector?

No. pomSENS does not detect smoke, fire or carbon monoxide. It is being designed to recognise the sound of existing alarms and let you know remotely. pomSENS is not a smoke detector or a replacement for approved alarm and safety systems. Keep your certified smoke alarms installed, tested and maintained.

Will it always notify me?

No connected device can guarantee a notification. Delivery depends on power, the internet connection at the location and the services in between. Treat pomSENS as an extra layer of awareness, not as a safety system.

When will it be available, and what will it cost?

There is no launch date or price yet. Early-access members will hear first. The price ranges in our survey are research questions, not product prices.

Does it record audio?

It is being designed to process sound on the device. Only measurements, such as noise levels and recognised alarm events, would leave it; audio recordings would not. We will publish full details before release.

What will it need to work?

Power and a Wi-Fi connection at the location, and a phone for setting it up. Exact requirements will be confirmed through testing.

Where will it be available?

We are starting in New Zealand. If you are elsewhere you are still welcome to join; it helps us understand where the demand is.

What happens to my details?

We use them to send the updates you asked for and to understand what people need. We do not sell them. Our privacy policy has the detail. Read the privacy policy.
